19TH C. ALABASTER BURMESE BUDDHA
I just was informed by a colleague in Thailand that this buddha is a Konebaung style buddha, with the elaborate dress, small waist, and pixie-like features. The Konebaung period began in 1752, and lasted until the British wars that ultimately made Burma a British colony. I think this dating is reasonable, since it is impossible to date a marble piece exactly. 15 ½ inches tall, with a mellowed patina with gilt. Condition is excellent, only a few scratches on the finial.
